Helping Children, Helping Animals:  - "Please visit some of the charitable organizations' websites, listed below. They are all about helping needy children and animals, the most vulnerable of living beings. If you think that your contribution, because of its modesty, would be irrelevant, think again!   Your contribution, regardless of how little, combined with other contributions, becomes a giant force that has the power to make a difference in the betterment of their lives.  Thanks for your kind attention - Astrud Gilberto"

Let's Be Kind To All Living Beings -  Astrud Gilberto has joined His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney, The Rev. Al Sharpton, The Black Eyed Peas, the late Richard Pryor, Phil Collins, Pink, and numerous other prominent public figures in supporting PETA's campaign against KFC's inhumane treatment of chickens. Message from Astrud, directly to her fans -  An additional message has been posted immediately following this one.

TO ALL OF MY FANS

(a message by Astrud Gilberto)

I  thank you for your support - for buying my records, for coming to my concerts, for sending me affectionate and encouraging messages.  I have always been very conscious of what a privilege it is for me to find a bunch of you - friends - in all places where I have been in this world, offering to me your generous applause, your good vibes, and your radiant loving smiles.

Your love humbles me and I feel a great sense of gratitude to the Life Force for having bestowed upon me the capability of being able to transmit, with my

singing, feelings of joy, spiritual warmth, or any other kind of positive effect on you. Your support of me has given me the badly needed strength to cope with the vicissitudes of the music business.  Your unconditional love has been unwavering, as it has endured the passing of several decades and, luckily for me, it even defies some of Showbiz' shallow rules such as an artist is only "successful" if and while having "hit" records and Media coverage.  I haven't had that in many years now, but yet you guys are, quietly, still there for me.  It is as if we have this "underground" love for each other...  What's even more gratifying for me, is to see that, along the way, I have acquired an additional generation of fans.  Actually, I don't like the word "fans" as much as I like "musically kindred spirits".

Music is one of the most spiritual entities there is, and I can quite understand why is it that it is revered by ancient Chinese culture as one of the seven "happy gods".

Like your support of me, Music, itself, has been an inexhaustible source of warmth, spiritual strength, and companionship to me, whether I am listening to it, singing to an audience of thousands or to my two cats, and even when unconsciously humming to myself.

So, similarly to what that song says, "I wish you bluebirds in the Spring", I wish you Music in the Spring (and in Summer, Winter and Fall... )

In closing, let me address those of you who are inclined to share your material good fortunes with the less fortunate, and ask you to consider making a donation to any or all of my "favorite" charitable organizations as listed below, with the added comment that the lack of mention of thousands of other charitable organizations (too numerous to cite) is not, in any way, meant to diminish their merits.  Even the wealthiest of people cannot contribute to all worthy causes...  I am particularly fond of charities that benefit children and animals, because they are, in my opinion, the most vulnerable of living beings.  If you are not prepared to make a "straight" donation, perhaps you would consider purchasing one of the articles for sale that you may find by browsing their websites, which will also be a valuable way of helping them in the pursuit of their causes.

"P.S.: To those of you who wish to know a little bit more about me, here it is:

-  One of the most powerful passions of my life is and has been my love for animals. I respect, admire and cherish their presence on this planet.  I love them all.  But, I must confess... I have a weakness for cats... (Take a look at my beautiful Mascots, Precious and Jera)
-  I'm an Aries.
-  Favorite flowers:  gardenias and daisies.
-  Favorite color:  none; I love them all.
..
-  My favorite perfume:  Fracas, by Robert Piguet.
-  Qualities I most admire:  kindness, unpretentiousness, intelligence, sense of humor, simplicity.
-  Here are the names of some of the contemporaneous people I admire:  Dr. Wayne Dyer, Nelson Mandella, President Bill Clinton, President Jimmy Carter, Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Ingrid E. Newkirk (President of PETA), Queen Noor, and Ted Turner, for their contributions to the promotion of peace and the betterment of life in this world.  I also profoundly admire any and all persons who contribute to charities, whether publicly or anonymously, and those who do or have done volunteer work in any capacity, to ease the suffering of all living beings.

Dear friends,

It’s been a while since I have addressed you directly, and I believe that this is a good time for me to do it again.

I particularly want to thank you for your support of my artwork.  My management has received numerous messages containing words of praise for my work, and wishes of good luck.  This means a lot to me, and I want you all to know this!  I also want to thank each and every one of you who have purchased artwork from the “AG Store”.  This is also so incredibly important to me, because, as you may know, most of the proceedings are donated to charities that benefit the protection of animals.  Talking about animals, I thank all of you who have sent messages acknowledging the essay that I have written about animals.  It is very rewarding for me to know that the work I did, involving the researching on its related subjects and the writing, itself (both of which having had strong emotional impact on me), resulted in something that has found resonance in your hearts!

As for those of you who have expressed frustration for not having had the opportunity to attend live performances in the last couple of years, let me tell you that I am immensely flattered and touched by your interest.  As I have stated on the interview that I’ve given last year (posted on this website), I’m not sure when or even if I will resume performing again, as I am enjoying a quieter life style these days, after 37 years of performing and traveling.  I want you to know that I believe that having been able to connect with you in person has been a blessing in my life, and that I have wonderful memories to cherish from each and every time you came to hear me “live”, or came back-stage to give me a warm hug.

Much love to you,

Astrud

Being vast and deep, it is transcendental and intelligent. It is because it is vast and deep that it contains all existence. It is because it is infinite and eternal that it fulfills or perfects all existence." -  Confucius
